How do I check the
browser settings for cookies, Java, and JavaScript?
For Internet Explorer 5, Internet Explorer 6, and Netscape 6, Java is not required (only cookies and JavaScript). For Internet Explorer 4 and Netscape 4, Java is still required along with cookies and JavaScript.
To enable Java and JavaScript
AOL for Mac
Go to Keyword: Preferences and click the link to Internet Properties (WWW).
Click the Advanced Settings button.
In the left pane, double-click Web Browser to expand the list (if necessary).
Click on Web Content.
In the Active Content section, select Enable scripting.
AOL for Windows
Start Internet Explorer. To do this, click the Start button, point to Programs, and click Internet Explorer (or double-click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop).
Determine which version of Internet Explorer you have on your computer. To do this, go to the Help menu (in Internet Explorer) and click About Internet Explorer.
In the About Internet Explorer box, look for the Version information (usually in the first line of text).
Follow the steps below for the version of Internet Explorer that you have on your computer.
Internet Explorer 4.x
Go to the View menu and select Internet Options.
Click Advanced and scroll down to the Java VM section.
The following options should be
checked:
Java console enabled (requires
restart)
Java JIT Compiler Enabled
Internet Explorer 5 and 6
Please note that Java is not required
for these browsers, only JavaScript. To enable JavaScript:
Go
to the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
Select the Security tab.
Select Internet in the Web content
zone and then click the Custom Level button.
Scroll down to the section titled
Active Scripting.
Select Enable.
Netscape Navigator 4.x
Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences.
Go to the Category section of the
Preferences dialog window and highlight Advanced.
The following options should be
checked:
Enable Java
Enable JavaScript
Netscape Navigator 6.1 and higher (Windows
and Mac)
Please note that Java is not required
for these browsers, only JavaScript. To enable JavaScript:
Open the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
Click the Advanced category.
Select Enable JavaScript for Navigator.
To set your browser to accept cookies
AOL for Mac
Go to Keyword: Preferences and click the link to Internet Properties (WWW).
Click the Advanced Settings button.
In the left pane, double-click Receiving Files to expand the list (if necessary).
Click on Cookies.
In the "When receiving cookies" list box, select "Never ask."
AOL for Windows
Start Internet Explorer. To do this, click the Start button, point to Programs, and click Internet Explorer (or double-click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop).
Determine which version of Internet Explorer you have on your computer. To do this, go to the Help menu (in Internet Explorer) and click About Internet Explorer.

Prompt before accepting cookies or Always accept cookies.
Internet Explorer 5.0
Go to the Tools menu and choose
Internet Options.
Click on the Security tab.
Select Internet in the Web content
zone and then click the Custom Level button.
Scroll down to the section titled
Cookies.
For the option Allow cookies that
are stored on your computer, click Enable or Prompt.
For the option Allow per-session cookies (not stored),
click Enable or Prompt.
Internet Explorer 6
Go to the Tools menu and select
Internet Options.
Select the Privacy tab.
Click the Default button and then
click Apply.
Click OK.
Netscape Navigator 4.x
Launch Netscape Navigator.
Go to the Edit menu and choose
Preferences.
Go to the small window on the left
side of the dialog box and click on the word Advanced.
In the section titled Cookies,
choose Accept all cookies.
If you want a warning before accepting
a cookie, check the box titled Warn me before accepting
a cookie.
Netscape Navigator 6.x
Launch Netscape Navigator.
Open the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
Under the Privacy & Security
category, choose Cookies (if no subcategories are visible,
double-click the category to expand the list.)
